Who are the Hoot tutors?

At Hoot Reading, every tutor is a highly qualified teacher—never a volunteer, contractor without credentials, or general academic tutor. Our teachers bring deep expertise, strong instructional practice, and a warm, encouraging approach that helps students build confidence as readers.

All Hoot Teachers hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in education or teaching, and have a minimum of two years of classroom experience in Canada or the U.S. Before teaching their first Hoot lesson, each teacher completes 18–22 hours of professional development and training. This builds on their existing pedagogical skill and prepares them to deliver structured literacy instruction with fidelity, personalize lessons, and support the unique learning profile of every student.

Safety and security are always a priority. Every teacher undergoes comprehensive background checks. In the United States, this includes a 7-Year County Criminal Record Check, SSN Trace, and Sex Offender Registry Search.
