How to get started with Hoot Reading

Looking to try Hoot Reading? It's easy to get started!

1. Explore & Book a Consultation

Begin by booking a free consultation with our enrollment team to learn how Hoot Reading can support your child’s literacy journey. This helps determine whether our 1-on-1 online program is the right fit.

2. Choose a Plan

Select a subscription that fits your child’s needs—typically 1, 2, or 3 lessons per week—and select a schedule that works for your family. Once you’ve registered for a plan, Hoot will match your child with a qualified teacher.

3. Start Assessment-Informed Lessons

Your child will take an initial assessment to identify their reading-skill gaps. From there, lessons begin with targeted instruction in your child's specific areas of need. We’ll update you with progress reports so you can stay informed about your child’s growth over time.

4. Use the Library & Track Growth

With your subscription, your child also gets unlimited access to a library of over 1,500 books to keep reading engaging and fun. Hoot monitors progress in both decoding (word reading) and comprehension, helping students become confident and skilled readers.

5. Device Requirements

Lessons take place in the online Hoot app, so your child will need a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet with camera, microphone, speaker and a stable internet connection. Headphones are recommended to reduce distractions.

6. Ready to Begin?

As soon as your subscription is active and your teacher assigned, your child will log into the Hoot app for their first lesson. From there, lessons become part of their regular schedule, building skills, momentum and confidence.
