Unique Learners
Early Readers
Build strong reading foundations from the very beginning.
Children who are learning to decode words and build early language skills benefit from explicit, structured support. With the right guidance, they can build confidence, accuracy, and a love of reading that sets them up for long-term success in school and beyond.
Developing Readers
Turn early skills into confident, grade-level reading.
Students who can sound out simple words but read below grade level often need targeted support to bridge the gap. Focused instruction helps strengthen fluent decoding skills and comprehension so reading becomes easier, more enjoyable, and something they choose to do.
Hidden Strugglers
Uncover and address challenges before they grow.
Some students appear to be doing fine but quietly struggle with comprehension, vocabulary, or deeper understanding often stemming from missing decoding skills. Identifying and supporting any gaps early ensures they stay on track and continue to build the skills needed for academic success.
Grades 1 - 5
Personalized support that meets students where they are.
Students with IEPs, 504 plans, or diverse learning needs benefit from individualized, one-to-one instruction. A tailored approach provides the flexibility, consistency, and confidence they need to make meaningful progress in a supportive environment.

Research-Based and Effective
The Hoot Reading App was incubated on a research project at the Nokia Research Lab with Sesame Workshop (the creators of Sesame Street) and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, and continued to grow alongside research in education.
Studies show that one-on-one, frequent, and consistent reading tutoring is the most effective way for kids to become skillful readers. Our approach to online literacy tutoring is proven to be effective and aligns with a structured literacy approach, informed by a body of research known as the Science of Reading.

Frequently Asked Questions
How young can my child start?
Many families begin around age 4—whenever your child can focus for short activities and shows curiosity about letters or books. Regardless of age or grade, all lessons start with identifying skill levels so your child gets instruction where they need it.
What do I need for lessons at home?
All lessons take place on our web-based app. Your child will need a laptop, computer, or tablet and a stable internet connection. The device must have a camera, microphone, and speaker. We also recommend headphones to help minimize distractions.
I've purchased a plan. What happens next?
At their first scheduled lesson time, your child will log in to the Hoot Reading App to meet their teacher. The first lesson will focus on the Hoot Reading Assessment to learn more about skill level; this data is then used to design their personalized reading instruction. Once the assessment is complete, lessons will start with instruction, picking up where the previous lesson left off.
Where can I get help with my lessons?
Hoot Reading has a Live Help Desk (with real humans!) available by email at help@hootreading.com, or by phone at 1-833-789-HOOT(4668). Our reading tutors are also trained to help students with basic troubleshooting solutions.
