Position Vice President, Operations
Location:Flexible – Winnipeg, Canada/Remote
Reports to: Co-founder
Effective date: Q1 2022


Hoot Reading is a rapidly growing, mission driven EdTech company that aims to help as many kids as possible to become not only proficient, but excellent, readers. Through our online tutoring platform, we provide children with live, 1:1 reading lessons with experienced classroom teachers. 

The company — which is headquartered in Canada and has teachers and students throughout North America —  was incubated on a research project at the Nokia Research Lab in partnership with Sesame Workshop (Sesame Street) and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. We are backed by Spin Master Ventures, the leading global children’s entertainment company behind world-class children’s brands such as Paw Patrol, Etch a Sketch, Toca Boca, and Sago Mini.

We are looking for a passionate leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and a proven experience in scaling operations to join our team. What’s on your plate: 

  • Your role is to scale Hoot Reading operations in order to meet and exceed our growth objectives.
  • Involvement and oversight of all facets of our operations including customer service, teacher scale, scheduling quality control, reporting and program management.
  • Collaborates with various departments and leaders in the development and implementation of strategic plans to scale our services
  • Data focused approach to drive results on organizational growth and financial performance
  • Development of “best practices” in all areas of responsibility
  • Training, coaching and driving of team members to collaborative to ensure consist experience for our customers and teachers
  • Motivates and inspires the operations and support teams, while building trusting relationships throughout the company
  • Report on KPIs to founders and investors


The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Several years of experience in a leadership, operational position responsible for scale and growth
  • Previous experience in tech, customer service, BPO or a scaling human focused business
  • Demonstrated passion for process and leveraging technology to scale
  • Strong leadership experience with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to be adaptable, creative and transparent in an ever changing environment
